PROVINCIAL CAPITOL, BACOLOD CITY

Main entrance of the Provincial Capitol of Occidental Negros in Bacolod City

One of the two giant statues (now painted in kitschy gold) that guard both ends of the lagoon fronting the Capitol.

Detail. Clearly art deco in flavor. Note also hair style reminiscent of the period.

A bull is controlled by a rather elderly man. Note bull's powerful neck muscles.

* highly praised by the late architect (of CCP fame) Leandro Locsin to be the most beautiful & symmetrical of all provincial capitols...

* juan arellano was the architect i think and those carabaos were made by the same italian guy who made the statues in the UST building...

* a few years back, a mayoress of bacolod painted both carabao sentinels with polychromatic hues cheapening it to look like nayong pilipino... a furor arose and after a week, it was painted back to gold...

*it was not always gold, it was painted dulce gatas brown before...
